Legalising a UK death certificate involves attaching an apostille — an official certificate that confirms the document’s authenticity for use abroad.
We can legalise either the original death certificate or a certified copy issued by the General Register Office or a local register office.
There are two types of apostille:
• Paper-based — you must send your physical document by post or deliver it in person.
• E-apostille — UK death certificates issued by the GRO are not eligible for e-apostille.
As the UK is a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention, this process removes the need for further legalisation abroad.
