Death Certificate

The death registration usually takes five days (8 days in Scotland). The deceased’s relatives must register the death. However, if, for some reason, the relatives are unable to do so, a third party can register the death:
• If he or she was present at the time of death;
• If he or she is an administrator from the hospital where the person died (applicable if the death occurred in a hospital);
• If he or she is responsible for making the funeral arrangements.

In addition, if you do not know the cause of death, or if it was sudden, you can inform the coroner, who will issue the necessary registration documents or send them to the register office himself.
